Brighton vs Liverpool LIVE!
The Carabao Cup holders face a tricky test tonight as they take on the Seagulls for a place in the quarter-finals. The Reds thumped hapless West Ham 5-1 in the previous round, while Fabian Hurzeler’s side knocked out Wolves in a five-goal thriller. Arne Slot will be wary of the threats on the south coast tonight, and will again be without Diogo Jota.
Slot has lost his 100 per cent away record as Liverpool manager with Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Arsenal and the Reds have a history of fourth-round exits in this competition, an omen Brighton will be looking to repeat tonight at the Amex Stadium. As well as Jota, Federico Chiesa, Harvey Elliott and Alisson Becker are also out but Conor Bradley is available again.
Danny Welbeck will be hoping to start again after shaking off a back injury to face Wolves, and then open the scoring. Hurzeler will be looking for more of the same tonight, while Evan Ferguson ended his goal drought in the same game as he looks to build momentum with form and fitness. Arne Slot discusses Brighton threat

The Reds boss has outlined what makes tonight’s opposition so dangerous.
“Very good idea about football for many years already. I like their playing style a lot with their former manager already and with this one as well. And I think what makes the club Brighton, in my opinion, special is that maybe [they do not have] the most money in the league when they buy the players – but they always find the right ones.
“So, there is a lot of quality, although also for them the transfer fees go up a bit but they are not spending £100 million on a player. They always find the right ones. So, many quality players to pick and a very good playing style.”

Standard Sport prediction

Liverpool aren’t exactly clear favourites against a fellow Premier League side – and the bookies appear to agree – but Brighton did let a 2-0 lead slip at the weekend and their defence isn’t exactly watertight and the expected absence of Lewis Dunk will be a real concern.
Even with rotation, the Reds should see this one out.
