Real Madrid vs Barcelona LIVE!

Barcelona stunned Real Madrid 4-0 at the Bernabeu to extend their lead at the top of LaLiga to six points. Two goals from Robert Lewandowski and further strikes from Lamine Yamal and Raphinha secured a famous away victory for Hansi Flick’s side on a night to forget for Real and Kylian Mbappe in particular.

Mbappe saw two goals ruled out for offside and was flagged six times in total in a poor first half. However, the second period was a capitulation from the whole team that left Carlo Ancelotti visibly frustrated at the full-time whistle. Questions will be asked of how Real collapsed so badly against their fiercest rivals in their biggest game of the season so far.

Barcelona leave Madrid with three points, all the bragging rights and quite possibly a big psychological advantage over Real after this victory. The comebacks of Frenkie de Jong, Gavi and Dani Olmo suggest things could yet get even better for this Barca side, who ended Real’s 42-game undefeated run that lasted 13 months. Barcelona statement

23:02 , Jamie Dickenson

Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena believes his side have sent a message after their 4-0 win over Real Madrid.

“We have shown we are capable of beating any team,” Pena told DAZN.

“We have changed the mentality, the team has improved a lot. We are scoring a tremendous amount of goals. And we have to enjoy this.

“The very first day the boss told us that our defensive line cannot move backwards. It’s his style. And Barca’s play for many years has been to keep the defensive line as high as possible.

“We’ve done it against such speedy and powerful players this week, which shows we’ve been doing good work, the boss’ ideas have fitted with us.

“For me, it’s dangerous to play with so many meters (of space) behind them (laughs) and you’re on your own. But it’s all reflected in the number of offsides (of rival teams).”

FT: Real Madrid 0-4 Barcelona

21:53 , Jamie Dickenson

Carlo Ancelotti does not look happy as the full-time whistle blows at the Bernabeu.

Robert Lewandowski put Barcelona on their way with a brilliant quickfire double, before Lamine Yamal added a third and Raphinha completed the rout with his delightful chip.

Real are stunned as Barca celebrate a famous win in Madrid.

Real Madrid 0-2 Barcelona

21:32

72 mins: Mbappe finds himself through again but he can’t beat Inaki Pena and find a finish. He looks to the sky and sighs, it just isn’t his night so far.

Real Madrid 0-2 Barcelona

GOAL! Real Madrid 0-1 Barcelona | ’54 Lewandowski

54 mins: There will be a VAR check but it looks like Robert Lewandowski has given Barcelona the lead with a supreme finish after being played clean through.

Ferland Mendy looks to have played him onside.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

Back underway

21:06 , Jamie Dickenson

The second half has started…

De Jong on

21:05

Frenkie De Jong has come on at half-time for Barcelona, with Fermin Lopez making way.

Mbappe offside SIX times

20:54 , Jamie Dickenson

Kylian Mbappe was caught offside six times in that first half as he struggled to get to grips with Barcelona’s high defensive line.

Here’s his offside goal…

HT: Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

20:50 , Jamie Dickenson

An eventful first half comes to an end at the Bernabeu, with Barcelona lucky to go into the break goalless.

Real have been flagged for offside numerous times, with Mbappe’s opener overturned by VAR after he started his run slightly too early.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

20:46 , Jamie Dickenson

43 mins: Casado becomes the first player to be booked this evening for bringing down Vinicius Junior, who gets away with making a card gesture at the referee.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

20:41 , Jamie Dickenson

39 mins: Lewandowski gets his first decent chance of the evening but fires high and wide, only to be called offside anyway.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

20:37

35 mins: You have to say Barcelona’s high defensive line has worked for them in this first half with so many offside calls, but it really does feel like a matter of time until Real take the lead. The visitors are dicing with death against Mbappe and Vinicius Junior.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

20:33 , Jamie Dickenson

30 mins: Kylian Mbappe almost marks his El Clasico debut with a wonderful goal, chipping Inaki Peni and celebrating wildly with the home crowd.

However, VAR intervenes and reverses the decision for offside.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

20:29 , Jamie Dickenson

26 mins: Camavinga is the latest Real Madrid to spurn a good opportunity, although the linesman’s flag was up. Real go forward again but Bellingham can’t keep the ball in play on the byline.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

20:25 , Jamie Dickenson

22 mins: A fantastic run from Vinicius Junior strangely ends in a bad miss from the expected 2024 Ballon d’Or winner.

The Brazilian drags his shot wide when he really should have scored. Big surprise this one is still 0-0.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

20:23 , Jamie Dickenson

21 mins: Raphinha chooses to shoot instead of playing in Balde and he makes the wrong decision, firing well over the crossbar.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

20:22 , Jamie Dickenson

19 mins: A really late call for offside puts the breaks on a Real counter, as Mbappe goes through and sets up Vinicius Junior who blazes over anyway.

Mbappe has been called offside a lot so far, he just needs to time his runs better as there is so much space to exploit with Barcelona’s high-line defence.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

20:17

14 mins: OFFSIDE! Camavinga played a great ball down the left flank for Mbappe, who cut the ball back for the onrushing Bellingham to score but offside was called.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

20:15 , Jamie Dickenson

12 mins: A long ball downfield from the goalkeeper falls to Mbappe but he fluffs his chance to chip the Barca keeper from distance.

Yamal then goes clean through but tamely chips his effort into the Inaki Pena’s hands. He should have done better than that.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

20:12 , Jamie Dickenson

10 mins: Raphinha couldn’t quite find Yamal in their first foray forward and then Lewandowski swung a boot and a chip into the box but didn’t connect.

Raphinha stays down after a stamp from Militao but he’s up and moving quickly.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

20:10 , Jamie Dickenson

08 mins: Vinicius Junior tries to find Mbappe but Barcelona snuff out the danger. Real have had all the ball so far with Barca barely playing in their opponents half.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

20:07 , Jamie Dickenson

05 mins: It’s been all Real Madrid in the early stages here, with the hosts bombarding the box with a couple of corners.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

20:05 , Jamie Dickenson

02 mins: Huge let off for Barcelona as Kylian Mbappe goes clean through and fires wide, although he was offside.

The question of whether Barca are going to repeat the high line they played against Bayern Munich in midweek was exposed ruthlessly there.

KICK-OFF!

20:02 , Jamie Dickenson

We are underway in Madrid…

Ancelotti back Vinicius for Ballon d’Or

19:57 , Jamie Dickenson

Carlo Ancelotti has backed Vinicius Junior to win the Ballon d’Or in Monday’s ceremony in Paris.

“Vinicius is going to win [the Ballon d’Or], not for what he did [against Dortmund], but for what he did last year,” Ancelotti said.

“These three goals are already going to count for next year’s Ballon d’Or, that’s for sure. He is a player who gets whistled at because he can make a difference.”

Kick-off soon

19:54 , Jamie Dickenson

We are just minutes away from kick-off at the Bernabeu tonight, as Thibaut Courtois and Rodrygo prepare to watch the game from the sidelines.

Real issue at right-back

19:47 , Jamie Dickenson

Real Madrid will be without stalwart Dani Carvajal for the rest of the season after he suffered a serious knee injury in the 2-0 win over Villareal earlier this month.

Real boss Carlo Ancelotti has started Lucas Vazquez at right-back in their last two games amid speculation they could move for Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Alexander-Arnold is out of contract at Anfield next summer and is free to speak to clubs abroad in January.

Raphinha admission

19:16 , Jamie Dickenson

Raphinha has admitted he has considered leaving Barcelona on a number of occasions.

“Man, there were several moments, not just one,” he told ESPN when asked if he had thought about moving on.

“My first six months here, the period from the summer transfer window until the World Cup, was a season in which I didn’t have the best of starts, so it crossed my mind to leave the club.

“There was a lot of self doubt. I have a nasty habit of criticising myself heavily, so to speak, so that pressure made me think about leaving.

“Then, obviously, after the World Cup I had a huge turnaround, managing to put up great numbers in six months.

“Last season, after the injuries I had, the sending off [against Getafe in the first game of the campaign], and also at the end of the season, seeing a lot of things that the club wanted to sell me, that the fans wanted me to leave, it also ends up crossing your mind to leave, to go somewhere where there’s no pressure.”

No changes for Barca

Flick warning

18:02 , Jamie Dickenson

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick says his side will stick to their principles in Saturday’s Clasico clash with Real Madrid.

Barca travel to the Santiago Bernabeu sitting top of La Liga, three points of their arch-rivals, and off the back of a stunning 4-1 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

It was a win that saw Raphinha hit a brilliant hat-trick, but Barca ride their luck at times, with Bayern exploiting their extremely high defensive line, particularly in the first-half at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

Despite this, and Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe posing a formidable frontline, Flick is adamant his side will not change their style in what is their biggest game of the season so far.

Speaking ahead of the game, he said: “We have our ideas. Our philosophy is to press high, and make it hard for the opponent to play out. Being close, very close together. Too much space between the lines doesn’t work for us. Real Madrid have very quick players, but I have full confidence in my team”.

Head to head history

17:28 , Jamie Dickenson

Real Madrid just shade Barcelona for all-time wins and won all three of their fixtures last season across all competitions.

Barca have three wins from the last seven games, while there hasn’t been an El Clasico draw for 15 matches dating back to 2019.

Real Madrid wins: 106

Draws: 51

Barcelona wins: 100

Real Madrid vs Barcelona prediction

17:24 , Jamie Dickenson

This is a really intriguing Clasico – ain’t they all? – as Real Madrid head into the game as clear, by some distance, favourites despite injury worries, Barcelona sitting top of the LaLiga standings and Robert Lewandowski in blistering form.

Madrid, unbeaten after 10 league games, will again prove the toughest of nuts to crack for their fiercest rivals, who have not tasted victory in the Clasico in four attempts.

But with Lewandowski top of the Pichichi standings – with 12 goals in 10 games – and Madrid missing Courtois, Barcelona will feel they have a chance. This could be closer than the bookies are predicting.

Score draw, 2-2.

Barcelona team news

17:22 , Jamie Dickenson

Hansi Flick is expected to stick with the team that thrashed Bayern Munich when Barcelona play Real Madrid in El Clasico tonight.

Barca come into the game at the Bernabeu on a high after a thumping 4-1 win in the Champions League on Wednesday and Flick is set to keep things the same.

Dani Olmo is an option to come in for Fermin Lopez in midfield but he has not played for more than a month so that would be a gamble.

Raphinha is flying after his sensational hat-trick against Bayern and will form a front three with Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski.

Jules Kounde will start at right-back, with Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez the two centre-backs and Alejandro Balde at left-back.

Marc Casado is expected to sit at the base of a midfield three in front of Lopez and Pedri.

Gavi is available again after making his return from injury and he will be eyeing more action after substitute appearances against Sevilla and Bayern.

Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Ferran Torres, Marc Bernal and Eric Garcia are all out injured.

Predicted Barcelona XI (4-3-3): Pena; Kounde, Cubarsi, Martinez, Balde; Casado, Pedri, Fermin; Yamal, Lewandowski, Raphinha.

Real Madrid team news

17:16 , Jamie Dickenson

Carlo Ancelotti faces a big call over who to play in midfield when Real Madrid face Barcelona in El Clasico tonight.

Ancelotti is not expected to tinker too much with the side that came from two goals down to beat Borussia Dortmund 5-2 in the Champions League on Tuesday.

But with Rodrygo out injured Real will be forced into changes at the Bernabeu.

Jude Bellingham will sit behind a front two of Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior, with Ancelotti facing a decision over whether to go with Luka Modric or Eduardo Camavinga in a midfield three alongside Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni.

Thibaut Courtois suffered a recurrence of an adductor injury against Dortmund, so Andriy Lunin will start in goal.

Lucas Vazquez will continue at right-back, with Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger at centre-back and Ferland Mendy at left-back.

Tchouameni will sit at the base of midfield ahead of Valverde and Modric or Camavinga.

Mbappe will make his first appearance in El Clasico, while Vinicius Junior will be out to down Barcelona after his stunning hat-trick against Dortmund.

The Brazilian is expected to be named Ballon d’Or winner on Monday.

David Alaba and Dani Carvajal have already been ruled out, with Brahim Diaz a doubt, but midfielder Tchouameni is back after making his return from injury against Dortmund.

Predicted Real Madrid XI (4-3-3): Lunin; Vazquez, Militao, Rudiger, Mendy; Tchouameni, Camavinga, Valverde; Bellingham, Mbappe, Vinicius Jr.
